Founded in 1999, the Buddhist Council of greater St. Louis is a collaborative effort among
various Buddhist organizations aiming to promote cooperation and to share the awakened
way of life with all beings.
Members of the Council meet monthly to organize several annual events and participate in selected community programs.
1. Socially Engaged Buddhism Seminar conducted in early March of each year, with presentations of thought-provoking talks and group discussion about the application of Buddhist teachings to social, economic, and political issues of our day.
2. International Vesak Day celebration commemorating the Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death (parinirvana: death of an enlightened being) every spring. This is our largest event.
3. The Mindfulness Day Seminar is conducted during the fall season, with guidance on Buddhist meditation based on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness.
4. Walk to Feed the Hungry around the end of October each year, to support the socially engaged activities of Buddhist Global Relief, led by Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi.
